Graeme Souness slams Manchester United star Paul Pogba: 'He hasn't got a basic understanding of his position' - Dailymail
Paul Pogba has come in for criticism from Liverpool legend and pundit Graeme Souness |
Graeme Souness has launched a scathing attack on Paul Pogba and believes the Manchester United man lacks the nous to become a world-class central midfielder.
The France star has been pivotal in United's recent resurgence after returning from a hamstring injury last month and impressed in the 3-1 win over Arsenal at the weekend before he was sent off.
But it appears the Liverpool legend is not convinced that Pogba possesses the necessary defensive qualities to master the position.
Souness told Irish broadcaster TV3 during the 2-1 win over CSKA Moscow on Tuesday night: 'When he is on the ball, there are lots of things to admire. He's powerful, he's got the good technique, he can wrong foot people, he can ping the ball.
'This isn't me being an ex-Liverpool player caning a Man United player. I thought the same when he was a Juventus player.'
The 64-year-old believes Pogba lacks the all-around game to master the position and fears it could already be too late for him to learn new tricks.
He added: 'That is basic stuff you learn in the youth team. He's 24 years old if he's not got it now when is he gonna get it?
'He hasn't taken a big game by the scruff of the neck and dominated it. He hasn't got a basic understanding of his position, I can't see that changing.'
Pogba has scored three goals in 12 appearances so far this season despite sitting out two months on the sidelines.
