Manchester United player Marcos Rojo reveals the secret behind remarkable comeback - Manchester Evening News

Rojo said it was good to get the rest

Marcos Rojo owes his remarkable comeback from a serious knee injury to 'the hard work' he put in over the summer in Portugal.
The 27-year-old tore his anterior cruciate ligament back in April but made his long-awaited return to action with a brilliant performance in United's 1-0 defeat to Basel last month.
The Argentinian has since played the full 90 minutes in the wins at Watford and Arsenal, but sat out Tuesday's 2-1 victory against CSKA Moscow as Jose Mourinho rested him ahead of the Manchester derby.
And, having traveled with United's squad on their pre-season tour of the U.S., despite being injured, the former Sporting Lisbon defender has now revealed that a spell in Portugal was crucial to his recovery.
“It’s great for me to be back on the pitch and feel the love of the fans and the love of the people again," he told MUTV.
"My return has come from the hard work I put in over the summer in Portugal to try to get myself back to peak condition. There were difficult moments and it was tough but, during those times, I relied on my family to help me through and it’s great to be back.
“I’m really looking forward to Sunday. It seemed like it was a long way in the distance when I was injured, but now it’s here and I’m ready and fit and raring to go.”
Mourinho revealed that he rested Rojo because he was 'really tired' and needed a break after being thrown back in following seven months on the sidelines.
And that decision is already paying off as far as Rojo is concerned.
"It was good to get the rest," he added.
"I’ve played three matches now and had 90 minutes in those games and I actually felt better than I thought I would do physically and I’m getting back into that rhythm now.
"I think it was a good decision by the manager to leave me out [against CSKA] because I feel fresh."
